There is an abandoned train station in Oakland, near the 980, that I have been meaning to surreptitiously enter and photograph for more than a year now. But I haven’t, because I don’t have any experience with trespassing, and a few drive-bys seemed to show that getting into the place would be a colossal pain. Perhaps it is, but apparently it’s doable, because pics of the place showed up at Satan’s Laundromat this morning. Color me terribly jealous.

I know I recognize the train station. Where is it?

he said oakland, near 980. 980 is only like a half a mile long. that narrows it down, doesn't it?

Oh wow, there are now pics of the interior up at SL. Neat! katya: station is just east of 980, just north of downtown. Don't know how to get you there on surface streets; the two times I've driven by, I made it up as I went along.

This station is where I arrived, suitcase in hand, stepping out of the California Zephyer from Chicago, ready to start a new life in Califonia.
It's been 24 years. When does that new life begin.
In 1980, it was not doing a booming business.
Newstand long abandoned, very echo-y place, only a few trains runing through a day. The Oakland Greyhound terminal still has more traffic flowing through it now than the station did then.
But in case you were wondering where trains stopped before the days of Emeryville and Jack London Square, that was it.

M: Just cause they did it first, it doesn't mean you couldn't do it better.

Curious if you saw this article last week:

It's at Wood & 16th, just east of the 880 - not 980. I think that's why I was confused before because I would have been able to see it from the highway or BART.
